In its guidelines of 20 October 2020, the High Council of Public Health (HCSP) recommends to reinforce preventive measures for indoor sport activities, in the COVID-19 context.
The HCSP states that the maintenance of activities, which are essential to the physical and mental health of the population, can only be conceived with strict compliance to these measures given the current very high level of circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Group sports in enclosed spaces (e.g. fitness, dance, squash, etc.) and team or contact sports present the greatest risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission. The HCSP recommends to maintain specific activities regardless of the geographical area, such as swimming pools.
The HCSP gives general recommendations relating to the responsibility of the manager, reception of participants, ventilation and airing of buildings, CO2 measurement, and hygiene rules.
It provides specific recommendations for fitness centers and swimming pools: it recommends to close collective changing rooms, to turn off hair dryers, to limit access to the stands or even to close them, and to wear of masks for all staff.
The HCSP recommends to allow access only to groups with a reservation (clubs and schools in particular) and to people with an individual or family membership card.
