These recommendations are updated every year by the Haut Conseil de la santé publique (French High Council for Public Health) taking into account the vaccination calendar and data from the Centre National de Référence du paludisme (National Reference Center on Malaria), Santé publique France (French National Public Health Agency), Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Médicament et des Produits de Santé (French national agency for medicine and health product safety) , and the Agence Nationale de Sécurité Sanitaire de l’Alimentation, de l’Environnement et du Travail (French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety).
They concern all travellers, whatever the destinations, reasons and conditions of their travel. They recall the importance, to prevent travel-related illnesses, of vaccination, malaria chemoprophylaxis, preventive measures against mosquitoes and other arthropods, food hygiene and hand washing measures. They specify the risks related to transport, the environment including atmospheric pollution, and certain situations. The precautions to be taken before and during stays abroad are detailed depending on the person (age, pregnancy, pre-existing condition, need for medication, etc.). Finally, the chapter devoted to preventing the spread of infectious diseases upon return from travel has been extensively revised.
The recommendations are published in the Bulletin épidémiologique hebdomadaire (Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin - BEH) of 21 May 2019, which can be downloaded here or on the website of Santé publique France.
