The company EQIOM is seeking authorization to use neutron analysis to improve the manufacturing process of clinker and associated costs, ensure lower CO₂ emissions, and minimize the environmental footprint while maintaining the quality of its production.
The HCSP recommends defining, for all cement producers using a neutron generator, criteria allowing derogations from the ban on the use of radionuclides referred to in Article R.1333-2 of the French Public Health Code.
The HCSP also issues recommendations concerning the installation of the analyser, as well as the design and implementation of the zoning around it, in order to manage electrical risks and address hazards related to radiation (including tritium hazards, neutron and gamma emissions, and activation phenomena).
Furthermore, the HCSP recommends a five-year re-evaluation of technological developments in new generations of analysers, along with the application of the provisions of the French Labour Code, particularly regarding the monitoring of workers’ health in relation to radiation exposure, including both routine and special medical surveillance.
